On January 15, 2010, the Department of Defense complied with a court order and published a list of Captives held in the Bagram Theater Internment Facility that included the name Mullah Shabir.[1][2][3]

There were 645 names on the list, which was dated September 22, 2009, and was heavily redacted.[1][2]

According to historian Andy Worthington, author of the The Guantanamo Files, he was alleged to be a "Taliban leader".[3] He was captured on February 25, 2008, in Ghazni Province.[4] American officials reported that his capture was due offering rewards for information that lead to captures.
